Cenni Storici

The Flat-Coated Retriever originated in Great Britain during the 19th century, when the spread of hunting with firearms necessitated a dog specialized in retrieving game, both on land and in water. Its ancestors, then known as Wavy-Coated Retrievers, probably derived from the crossbreeding of Newfoundland dogs, Spaniels, Setters, and water dogs, with subsequent contributions from other working breeds. The breed reached its peak popularity between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, becoming one of the most appreciated Retrievers among British sportsmen.

Origine Geografica: Great Britain

The Flat Coated Retriever originated in Great Britain, where the breed was developed in the 19th century for retrieving game. The British territory, characterized by rivers, lakes, wetlands, fields, and woodlands, provided the ideal environment for selecting a dog capable of working effectively both on land and in water. The cool, rainy oceanic climate favored the development of a resilient, tireless, and water-loving dog. The characteristics of the British landscape thus helped define an elegant, athletic, and particularly versatile breed for hunting work.
